AEDs: Increasing Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survival Rates in Your Community
Event Date: September 14, 2011 02:00 PM EST
North Lake Tahoe is among the safest places in the U.S. to have a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Why? The entire community is prepared with automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Attend this webcast and learn how the fire department took a leading role in preparing the community to save more lives. Battalion Chief Michael Schwartz will share how to:
  • Work within limited funds to equip all facets of your fire department with AEDs and increase SCA survival rates.
  • Successfully launch and manage a community public access defibrillation (PAD) program.
Mike will be joined by Doug Randell, EMS training officer, from St. Louis Fire Department. With 365 AEDs, St. Louis has one of the largest PAD programs in the U.S.  Doug Randell will share best practices on how to create a heartsafe community – large or small.

Doug RandellDoug Randell is the EMS training officer for the St. Louis Fire Department. Since 1996, Doug Randell has served as a City of St. Louis EMT, paramedic, and was then promoted to EMS training officer in January 2000. As such, Randell is one of two responsible for medical training for the members of the department. He has volunteered his time with organizations such as the American Heart Association and has been the Chair of the Education Subcommittee of the State Advisory Council for the State of Missouri since 2004. Doug manages the fire department's AED program - from planning and training to deployment and equipment maintenance.

Cardiac Science
The Cardiac Science Powerheart AED G3 Pro is a fully equipped automated external defibrillator for medical professionals that comes with a 7-year warranty, color ECG display, 3-lead monitoring capability, and manual defibrillation override. Since the Powerheart AED G3 Pro is a portable defibrillator and cardiac monitor in one, EMS and first responders have one less piece of equipment to handle — and more time to administer critical care. You’ll find the layperson-friendly Powerheart AED G3 Plus protecting your communities with public access AED programs.

Of the total 270 model #9300E AEDs,
160 were purchased with funds raised by The Lifesaving Foundation for the St. Louis Fire Department.
